Beekeeper Inspecting Hive

Love of Bees

I started making beeswax candles during the 2020 COVID lockdown.  I loved the fact I was making something with my hands that was completely free of chemicals - both from the bees and the beekeepers, not to mention the amazing honey aromas and making something useful, beautiful and no marketing BS (think soy candles!)

At the same time I was taking steps to become a beekeeper, and of course devastated when the varroa mite hit our shores. Becoming a beekeeper wasn't ideal for me, instead I focused on

supporting native bees and planting bee-loving flower seeds everywhere.

My small beeswax candle side hustle become successful. And when I finished training to become a Celebrant, rather than running two websites and social media accounts, I saw a way to blend them and, of course I spotted the parallels between bees and marriage.

Bees and marriage

I love how bees and marriage both rely on balance and care. Bees take what they need from nature, without causing damage and turn it into something that sustains life. A hive is built slowly, with teamwork. The honey food is made and stored, a home is kept, and the brood is nurtured so everything can continue. And I’ve always loved this simple image; two wings working together to keep the bee in motion. If one stops, everything changes.

That same idea sits at the heart of how I see marriage. Two people moving together, creating something steady, loving, healthy and built over time. Learning from each other, supporting each other, shaping a life that only works because both are fully in it.

That’s what I bring into ceremonies now. Something built slowly, with attention, so it actually feels like the couple standing in front of me.

And this also why my couples receive a box of beeswax candles. Enjoy!
